Best European Alternatives to Zoom (2026)
Zoom became a household name during the pandemic, but it has faced scrutiny for routing some calls through servers in China in 2020 and, in 2023, over terms that appeared to allow using call data for AI training. Meeting content and metadata are handled by a US company under US law. European video conferencing tools offer comparable call quality with your meetings kept in Europe.
Replace Zoom with a private video conferencing app based in Europe. Compare Whereby, Nextcloud Talk, all operated under European privacy law.
Whereby Host it yourself
Open-source software you run on your own server, NAS or an always-on computer at home. Your data never leaves your hands and nobody can close your account, but you look after updates and backups yourself. Because you hold the data, these can be developed anywhere.
